Program Introduction
A supply chain is an organizational form that, oriented by customer needs, aims to improve quality and efficiency, and integrates resources to achieve efficient collaboration throughout the entire process of product design, procurement, production, sales, and services.
In 2017, the General Office of the State Council issued Guiding Opinions on Actively Promoting Innovation and Application of Supply Chains, officially elevating the innovation and application of supply chains to a national strategy. The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized that to deepen supply-side structural reforms, new growth points and drivers should be cultivated in fields such as modern supply chains. The global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had a profound impact on the international economic and trade situation, making the establishment of an open, stable, secure, and collaborative global supply chain system a key issue of international concern.
With the development of information technology, supply chains have entered a new stage of smart supply chains, deeply integrated with the Internet and the Internet of Things. Supply chain competitiveness has become an important symbol of national competitiveness. Currently, China's supply chain development is in the ascendant, and the demand for supply chain talents is increasing year by year. According to the Employment Prosperity Analysis Report on Supply Chain Managers released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security in 2021, the total demand for supply chain managers in China will reach approximately 6 million in the next five years.
In response to the call for the "national strategy of supply chains" and meeting the demand for high-level supply chain management talents in economic and social development, Shenzhen University has comprehensively promoted the transformation and upgrading of its programs. On the basis of the provincial first-class program in Logistics Management, the university applied to the Ministry of Education for the establishment of the Supply Chain Management program in 2022, which was approved for enrollment.
Focusing on program construction, guided by the basic laws of higher education development and modern educational concepts, and relying on the core engine location advantage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, the Supply Chain Management program combines local high-tech and supply chain industry development characteristics to build a practical teaching system of "industry demand-oriented, enterprise joint construction". It has created a professional feature of "interdisciplinary integration of data science and management science, and dual-drive of smart supply chains and supply chain finance". Committed to talent cultivation, seizing the major opportunities of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Zone, the program aims to cultivate supply chain management professionals with supply chain strategic thinking, familiarity with knowledge and operations in various segments of the supply chain, and both theoretical knowledge and practical execution capabilities. These talents should be able to "speak well when standing up, write well when sitting down, and work well when going out", contributing to Shenzhen's efforts to build a "global supply chain management center" and a "city card of supply chain finance".
