Program Introduction
In September 2003, the Ministry of Education granted our university a master's degree program in Statistics under the discipline of Applied Economics, and we began enrolling master's students in Statistics in 2004. In August 2011, we obtained the authorization for a first-level discipline master's degree in Statistics. In November 2018, we gained the authorization for a first-level discipline master's degree in Applied Statistics.
Leveraging the unique advantages of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shenzhen University, after 16 years of continuous development, this discipline has gradually formed distinctive disciplinary development directions. The department currently has 1 professor, 4 associate professors, and 4 assistant professors, including 8 with doctoral degrees and 1 doctoral supervisor.
In the past five years, faculty members have presided over 3 National Social Science Fund projects and National Natural Science Fund projects, 1 provincial key project, and 5 provincial and ministerial-level projects; they have also won 5 scientific research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level. A series of important papers have been published in key journals such as Quantitative and Technical Economics, Statistical Research, and Journal of Statistical Software. Among them, more than 20 papers have been included in SSCI, SCI/EI (JCR Q1, JCR Q2); several achievements have received instructions from the main leaders of the provincial and municipal committees and been adopted by relevant departments, gaining high social recognition.
Notable achievements have been made in talent cultivation: (1) Graduate students of this discipline have published academic papers in authoritative journals such as Statistical Research, Quantitative and Technical Economics, and Nonlinear Dynamics during their studies; (2) They have won honors such as the Special Award in the 4th "CFFEX Cup" National University Financial Derivatives Knowledge Competition, the Second Prize in the 9th National Excellent Achievements in Statistical Science by the National Bureau of Statistics, and the "Top 100 Excellent Master's Theses in Guangdong Province".
